What is Ogham...

Ogham is an ancient alphabet with each letter represented by a mark along one central line. Dating back to the 4th century, it is the earliest form of writing to be found in Ireland and some parts of the UK. It is believed to have originated in Ireland, with findings in the UK created by Irish settlers.

Ogham was carved into stones to mark land boundaries or to commemorate a member of the community. Today there are roughly 400 surviving stones found predominantly in Ireland and on the Welsh coast. The stones feature names, ancestral and tribal affiliations and Latin words.

Ogham is recreated today in many forms of art including sculpture, wall art, jewellery and tattoo artistry.
