Croagh Patrick is one of Ireland’s most popular mountain climbs. Climbers can enjoy breath-taking views of the vast Clew Bay islands and the Wild Atlantic Way below. Also known as the ‘Holy Mountain’ or ‘The Reek’, it is believed that St. Patrick fasted at the top of the mountain for 40 days during the fifth century. The climb is also a pilgrimage walk, with mass being said in the small church that sits atop the mountain. The church can be seen as a slight glimmer on my painting.
